Woven from Our Values. Inspired by Our History.

For generations, we have honored Mr. Gunn’s Scottish heritage in both visible and subtle ways, from the design of our crest, to the names of our teams, to the formal attire worn by our students when our community gathers for occasions from Advisor Lunch to Commencement. As part of our 175th Celebrations, we introduced a new and lasting symbol of that heritage: The Frederick Gunn School Tartan. Our own tartan has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the character of our community, each thread woven with intention and the spirit of what it means to be a Highlander.

The Frederick Gunn School Tartan is inspired by the Tartans of Clan Gunn, one of the oldest Scottish clans, noted for its resilience and character, and the clan from which Mr. Gunn descended. The school successfully registered its newly designed tartan with The Scottish Register of Tartans in 2025.

The Tartan Colors

The Gunn Tartan was thoughtfully designed to reflect the character of the community, each thread woven with intention and the spirit of what it means to be a Highlander.

Green
Honors the wild, untamed beauty of the natural world and serves as a reminder that true learning often begins outdoors.

Blue
Lifts our gaze to the endless sky above campus. It symbolizes possibility, growth, and the lifelong pursuit of knowledge.

Red
Runs in a pair, representing Frederick and Abigail Gunn. It's a tribute to the love that founded our school and continues to shape its spirit.

White
Is the thread that brings us together, representing shared purpose and the clarity of a common mission.

Black
anchors the pattern with strength and pride. It stands for loyalty, tradition, and the lasting bond between generations of Gunn students.
