College Counseling

Equipped for What’s Next

It is the dedicated role of the College Counseling Office to help our students and their families navigate the complex, dynamic and ever-changing college admissions landscape, from standardized testing and preparing a list of schools to visiting college campuses, completing applications and writing essays.

At The Frederick Gunn School, each student works with one of our college counselors in a carefully orchestrated process. The College Office collaborates with students and parents to engage in honest self-reflection, as it is the cornerstone of an enjoyable and productive college process.

  • Together, we research appropriate colleges that merit further investigation by students.

  • We encourage a healthy perspective in the hopes of developing a well-balanced list that leaves everybody involved excited about not only the outcome, but the process as well.

  • Our College Counselors are heavily involved in the community, which gives them the opportunity to get to know each college advisee personally, and uniquely equips them to guide students through the college process to find the right individual fit for them.

  • Our college counselors also provide support for students who are interested in playing college sports at the NCAA Division I, II or III level, as well as those applying for financial aid.

The college search process is a nuanced and individual one, however, there are certain steps that all FGS students typically take along the way.

The most helpful aspect of The Frederick Gunn School's college process was the availability of the College Counselors to help out with any area of the process at any time. Having regular meetings with my counselor eased a lot of stress and worry off my shoulders and made me more confident and focused on the applications as well. My counselor also helped me tremendously with practicing for interviews.
