Early Decision FAQs

Our application pool has grown by nearly 60% over the last 5 years and with that has come increasing feedback within our annual Admissions Surveys that a growing number of families have identified The Frederick Gunn School as their first choice school. With that, an increasing number of families have indicated that a shortened application timeline would reduce stress for their students and that an Early Decision offering would be welcomed. After thoughtful consideration, we have determined that a fully transparent Early Decision option will be available for families beginning in the Fall of 2024.

• December 2, 2024: Early decision application & financial aid application deadline 
• December 16, 2024: Notification of early admissions decisions & financial aid awards 
• January 6, 2025: Early decision enrollment response deadline

Early Decision is a binding decision for all students that have decided The Frederick Gunn School is their number one choice. If a student is admitted to our school in the Early Decision process, it is then expected that the student will withdraw all applications from other schools.

Yes. Student interviews are a key component of every application process. Interviews allow us to know you better as an individual and in turn allow you the opportunity to learn more about our school.

No. Early Decision is an option for students that have decided The Frederick Gunn School is their number one choice and would like to end their search process earlier than the Regular Decision timeline allows. Admissions Officers evaluate both Early Decision and Regular Decision on the same set of criteria regardless of which admissions path you have chosen.

We expect that tuition will be set in November. Tuition typically increases by 3-5%, and while this is not a guarantee for any year, it is a guide for families considering Early Decision before tuition is finalized in November.

Yes. Students seeking need-based financial aid are eligible to submit a financial aid application by December 2, 2024 and will receive a financial aid award in conjunction with their admissions application if they are admitted to the school. Early Decision financial aid consideration requires that all applications and materials be submitted by December 2, 2024. Meeting this deadline will ensure that your student receives a financial aid award if admitted on December 16, 2024, while missing this deadline will make it unlikely that we are able to provide a financial aid decision during the Early Decision process.

There are 3 possible outcomes for Early Decision candidates: 1) the student is admitted to our school; 2) the student is deferred by the Admissions Committee to the Regular Decision round and will receive a final decision on March 10; or 3) the student is not admitted to our school and cannot apply again until the following yea
