The Alumnus of The Year Award is presented by the Alumni and Development Office to recognize alumni who honor the spirit, mission and vision of Frederick Gunn through their dedication to the School. Given in the recipient’s reunion year, this aware acknowledges individuals who have made significant contributions of time, talent and treasure to the school, have been loyal Gunn alumni, and have set an outstanding example to the alumni community.

The David Hoadley ’51 Award for the Alumnus/na of the Year was renamed in 2021, before he passed away in January 2022, to honor David, who was the first recipient of the award in 1989. This award is given annually to the person who, in the opinion of the Alumni and Development Office, has contributed most significantly to the school through his or her volunteer efforts and who, in those efforts, has represented The Frederick Gunn School to the highest standards.

The Gunn Trailblazer Award is presented by the Alumni & Development Office to an alumnus or alumna who has graduated within the last 15 years, who embodies Mr. Gunn's mission to be a force for good in the world by demonstrating early success in a chosen profession, commitment to service to the school and greater community, and who demonstrates exceptional promise for the future.
