Canterbury Day

Each year, athletic teams from The Frederick Gunn School and Canterbury School come together in the spirit of competition, sportsmanship, and camaraderie during the final week of the fall athletic season. School spirit is at an all-time high as the Highlanders take on the Saints, our neighbors just nine miles away, and seek to accumulate points toward the Gunn-Canterbury Cup.

The Gunn-Canterbury Cup is one of the greatest traditions in Frederick Gunn School athletics — a yearlong competition established in 2017 to elevate a rivalry built on more than a century of shared athletic history. One point is awarded for every head-to-head athletic victory, regardless of level (varsity or JV) or season (fall, winter, or spring). Ties are worth half a point. With more than 25 contests across every sport, the standings shift constantly right up until the final games are played in May.

The school with the most points at the end of the year claims the trophy — and bragging rights — until the next champion is crowned.
