Patrick Durning, Ph.D., is a member of the History Department faculty and Assistant Coach for Boys Varsity Crew and Boys JV Ice Hockey. An educator with more than 30 years of experience, he most recently taught history, economics, and ethics, and coached soccer, basketball, and lacrosse at The Ethel Walker School. After earning his doctorate in philosophy from Brown University, he taught at St. George’s School in Rhode Island and The Kinkaid School in Texas. He also holds dual bachelor’s degrees in philosophy and physics from Duke University, and a master’s in philosophy from Brown. In his spare time, Patrick likes to run, bike, read, learn guitar and play trombone. He and his wife, Betsy, have two children, Henry and Margaret. Fun fact: Patrick was in ROTC for a year and spent a summer on a submarine.
Eric Hunt P'23 '24 joined the school in 2022 as a member of the IDEAS Lab faculty. He teaches courses in engineering and Advanced Computer Science, and is the Head Coach for Boys JV Hockey and JV Baseball. Eric grew up in Wallingford, Connecticut, and is a graduate of Lyman Hall High School and Saint Michael's College, where he received a bachelor's degree in computer science and played club soccer and ice hockey. Prior to joining Gunn, Eric taught math and computer science and coached boys soccer and ice hockey at Brewster Academy, wehre he was a lead mentor on the school's FIRST® Robotics team. Eric lives on campus with his wife, Sarah P'23 '24, who teaches English and works in the Center for Academic Excellence. They have three children, Annabelle '23, Wesley '24, and Anderson, and a mini goldendoodle, Honu.
