Alan Leathers joined the Mathematics Department faculty in 2021. He teaches math, is Head Coach for Boys Varsity Tennis and Boys JV Soccer, is an advisor and a dorm parent in Teddy House. Alan grew up in Avon, Connecticut, and graduated from Avon Old Farms School. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing from Boston University. Out of college, he worked for Warren Bosworth, customizing tennis rackets for professional tennis players, including 16 of the top 30 players in the world. Since then, he has taught math and and coached soccer, squash, basketball, and tennis at Avon Old Farms, Westminster, and Dexter Southfield School. Alan also served as Director of Tennis at the Chatham Beach and Tennis Club for 13 years. Most recently, he lived in Bloomfield and worked as a financial services representative at New England Financial Group. In his spare time, he enjoys biking, hiking, and playing sports of all kinds. He and his wife, Sarah, live on campus with their dog, Maggie.
Andres Sovero joined the World Languages faculty in 2022. He teaches Spanish II and Spanish II Honors, and coaches Boys Highlander Soccer. Raised in Lima, Peru, and New Milford and Washington, Connecticut, Andre graduated from New Milford High School. He received his bachelor's degree in Spanish from Western Connecticut State University, where he played rugby and intramural sports, and was a member of the Multicultural Club. He holds a master's in higher education administration from Northeastern University. Prior to joining The Frederick Gunn School, Andres worked at Central Connecticut State University, managing student support services programs for students in grades 6 to 12 grade and higher education. Fun fact: Andre can make an amazing breakfast sandwich as well as select Peruvian dishes. He lives on campus with his wife, Luzvet, and daughter, Arianna. He enjoys spending his free time with his family, exercising, and playing soccer.
