Team Overview
Thank you for your interest in the tennis program. Tennis has been a part of FGS athletic program since 1925. It has provided many students the opportunity to participate at a competitive level against other prep schools such as Taft, Westminster, Hopkins, Salisbury. and Avon. Our season begins in March and we play a 16 match schedule and most years have made a trip to Maryland to participate in the 16 team New England Mid-Atlantic Tennis Invitational at McDonough School. Team Matches consist of 6 singles and 3 doubles. We finished the 2015 season with an impressive 8-4 record.
The goal of the tennis program is to promote a strong work ethic, team play and a dedicated commitment to excellence. Our tennis facility consists of 8 courts; 4 lighted Har-Tru courts and 4 all-weather courts. The team practices on a daily basis for one and half hours. The goal during practices is to develop individual skills and match play. Our players will have the opportunity to play both singles and doubles during team matches, so it is important that they learn various facets of the game during practice time.
We have enjoyed a proud tradition of success within the program. We have had several players receive an invitation to play in New England Tournament at the end of the season and many of our graduates have gone on to play tennis at the collegiate level.
