Meet the Coaches
-
Head CoachNick DePreter is the Associate Director of Outdoor Programs. He also teaches English and Pathways, which is part of the Center for Citizenship & Just Democracy curriculum, and coaches Ultimate Frisbee and Highlander X, a co-curricular program that combines outdoor leadership, fitness, and community service. Nick holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in education from Truman State University, where he competed in ultimate frisbee, rugby, roller hockey, and mountain biking. Nick came to Gunn from The Horace Mann School in Washington, Connecticut, where he served as Director of the John Dorr Nature Lab. In his free time, Nick enjoys going on adventures with his family, playing baseball, whitewater canoeing, mountain biking, backpacking, rock climbing, reading, hiking, and learning guitar. Nick and his wife, Andi, and son, Whit, live in Washington with their dog, Cooper.

Assistant CoachKori Rimany ’14 received her bachelor’s degree from Connecticut College, where she double majored in English and Gender and Women’s Studies and minored in Mathematics. She is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Teaching through Mount Holyoke College. At Frederick Gunn School, Ms. Rimany teaches English and coaches field hockey and ultimate frisbee. She often brings her little dog, Bailey, to practice in the afternoons. In her spare time, she runs a small business called The English Teacher Candle Co.

Assistant CoachCassandra Ruscz, Ed.D., is the Director of Multicultural Recruitment and Associate Director of Admissions at The Frederick Gunn School. A graduate of the Taft School, Cassie majored in psychology and Spanish at Tufts University, where she was also an All-American and helped lead the Jumbos to back-to-back national championship titles in softball. Ruscz's softball achievements at Tufts were honored in 2024 as she was inducted into the Tufts University Athletics Hall of Fame. She holds a master's in education from the University of Delaware and also a doctorate of education from the University of South Carolina's College of Education. She published her dissertational studies in 2024 entitled "Fostering Empowered Leaders: Optimizing Leadership Development Programs for Adolescent Female Students". Cassie arrived at Gunn in 2017 as a member of the World Language faculty and has taught almost every level of Spanish at the school. She served as Director of Residential Life for two years and Prefect Advisor for six, before taking on her current role in the Admissions Office in July 2023. She is also the Head House Parent in Gibson House, Head Coach for Girls Varsity Volleyball, and the 2021 recipient of The Class of 1955 Distinguished Teaching Award.

On the turf, Highlanders don’t just compete—they practice character-cultivation and sportsmanship.
