Varsity Field Hockey

Gunn Field Hockey is a member of the Western New England Prep School Field Hockey Association (WNEPSFHA), competing in the Class C division as a school with an enrollment of under 120 girls. The team plays a competitive schedule with opponents including Canterbury School, Millbrook School, Berkshire School, The Ethel Walker School, Suffield Academy, St. Luke's School, Northfield Mount Hermon School, and Westover School, among others.

The program is built on character and leadership development, with The Frederick Gunn School's commitment to sportsmanship and excellence at its core — a strong, unified team that strives for success on and off the field, plays with heart and determination, and puts scholarship, integrity, respect, and responsibility above all else. Field hockey is the avenue; those four cornerstones of a true Gunn education are the point. The program has transformed novice athletes into college-bound players while also helping high-level, experienced athletes reach their own goals, and the junior varsity squad plays a key role in that pipeline — teaching teamwork, fitness, and the fundamentals of the game while preparing developing athletes for the rigor of varsity play.

Expectations for every student-athlete include daily practice, film sessions, team lifts, respect for coaches and the team's mission, and a willingness to take risks.
