Team Overview
2021 NEPSAC Girls' Field Hockey Championships Class C Bracket - Quarterfinalists
Welcome to The Frederick Gunn School Field Hockey program! Gunn is a member of the Western New England Prep School Field Hockey Association. Within WNEPSFHA, Gunn is classified in the “C” Division, as a school with enrollment of under 120 girls. Currently, the program consists of a varsity and junior varsity squad. Both the varsity and the junior varsity teams play competitive schedules with opponents including The Canterbury School, Millbrook School, Berkshire School, The Ethel Walker School, Suffield Academy, St. Luke’s School, Northfield Mount Hermon School, and Westover School, among others. In recent years, the Gunn varsity squad has enjoyed much success, capturing the Class C New England Championship in 2012, finishing in second in 2013, and proceeding to the first round of the playoffs in 2015 and 2021.
Our Philosophy
The varsity program operates with a simple goal in mind: We look to build a strong and unified team that strives for success in everything we do, be it on or off the field. We strive to not only become a skilled and competitive team on the turf but also a respectful group of student-athletes that display good sportsmanship and always play with heart and determination. We put scholarship, integrity, respect, and responsibility above all else, and use field hockey as an avenue to instill in each other the four cornerstones of a true Gunn education. The presence of a junior varsity squad allows us to teach young athletes about the importance of teamwork, personal fitness, determination and the game itself while grooming them for the rigor of a varsity program.
