Girls Soccer Program

The Gunn Girls Soccer program competes in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class C Division as a school with an enrollment of under 120 girls. The team plays a competitive schedule against opponents including Canterbury School, Millbrook School, The Ethel Walker School, Suffield Academy, St. Luke's School, Hopkins School, and Westover School, among others.

The Gunn Girls Varsity Soccer program strives to develop student-athletes who are leaders in all aspects of their Gunn experience. Practice sessions are built around technique, tactics, and game mindset, preparing athletes to compete with discipline, hold one another accountable, and approach every training session with purpose.

Off the field, leadership matters just as much: our student-athletes serve as dorm RAs, Head Tour Guides, Gunn Society members, Dining Hall Managers, and peer leaders across campus, carrying forward the same lessons of sportsmanship and character that Mr. Gunn valued over 175 years ago. The goal is to build a team that is confident under pressure, resilient in adversity, and united in its pursuit of excellence.

Meet the Coaches

Jessica Lyon

Head Coach

Jessica Lyon has a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Western Connecticut State University. She studied in Spain and Nicaragua, where she also taught elementary school for a summer, and she previously taught Spanish at a private therapeutic boarding school. She is the World Languages Department Chair at The Frederick Gunn School, teaches Spanish and coaches boys soccer and baseball. She lives in New Milford with her husband, Dave, son, Justin, and dogs, Jack and Stella, and enjoys trying new recipes, hiking and playing recreational softball. She also has completed three Ragnar Relay Series® races.
Alisa Croft

Assistant Coach

Alisa Croft is the Anne S. and Odgen D. Miller Senior Master at Gunn and Mathematics Department Chair. As senior master, she carries the Gunn Mace in faculty processions, and delivers the invocation and benediction at all-school events such as Convocation and Commencement. Alisa also teaches math, serves as a Head House Parent, and is an an advisor. Since joining the faculty in 2000, she has taught almost every math course at Gunn, including a new Advanced Math class introduced in 2026, and coached girls soccer for 21 years. She served as Head Coach for Girls Varsity Soccer and Assistant Coach for Varsity Softball. Alisa was named the holder of the Tisch Chair for Excellence in Teaching from 2012-2015, and delivered the Convocation Address as the recipient of the Class of 1955 Distinguished Teaching Award in 2008. She enjoys Red Sox games at Fenway Park, traveling to new places, and spending time with her family. Raised in Bolton, Connecticut, she received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Connecticut, and loves to support the Huskies in various sporting events! She lives on campus with her husband, Michael, and their son.
