Girls Varsity Softball
Team Overview
The FGS softball team is looking forward to the spring season with many returning players under the lead of Coach Cassie Ruscz and Assistant Coach Alisa Croft.
The softball team prides itself on sportsmanship, teamwork and hard work. We have simple, yet key elements to having a successful season: competing at a high level every game and practice, working together, developing and improving our skills each day, respecting the game and having fun! Should you have any further questions about the softball program please feel free to contact our coaches.
Meet the Coaches
-
Assistant CoachAlisa teaches mathematics, serves as Mathematics Department Chair, and coaches both Girls Varsity Soccer and Varsity Softball. She has coached girls soccer for 21 years at Gunn, and is excited to watch a JV program develop for young athletes. Alisa was named the holder of the Tisch Chair for Excellence in Teaching from 2012-2015, and received the Class of ’55 Distinguished Teacher Award in 2008. She enjoys Red Sox games at Fenway Park, traveling to new places, and spending time with her family. A graduate of UConn, she also loves to support the Huskies in various sporting events! She lives on campus in Graham House with her husband, Michael, and their son, Jonathan.

Head CoachLeah Peluchiwski joined the English Department faculty in 2022. She teaches English I for freshmen and an elective for upperclassmen, America and the Immigrant Experience, and is Assistant Coach for Girls Varsity Skiing and Girls Varsity Softball. A native of Chicago, Leah graduated from the Latin School of Chicago and earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame in the Program of Liberal Studies. She majored in film, television, and theater, with a concentration in television and a minor in business economics. At Notre Dame, Leah was also a member of the Club Sailing Team, a tour guide, and volunteered with a Junior Great Books group at a nearby middle School. Prior to joining Gunn, Leah taught 10th grade humanities and coached sailing and swimming at Culver Academies, a boarding school in Culver, Indiana. In her free time, she enjoys reading, sailing, and spending time outdoors, especially around lakes and oceans, and baking. Fun fact: Leah shares her love of the water with her whole family. Her parents encouraged her and her brother to get certified in scuba diving as soon as they were old enough and they have enjoyed diving as a family for many years as a result.
