On Sunday, May 26, 2024, The Frederick Gunn School will celebrate the Class of 2024 at its 174th Commencement Exercises. This year, 93 students, representing 17 states and seven countries, will graduate from the school, founded in 1850 by Frederick Gunn, a pioneering educator, courageous abolitionist, and rugged outdoorsman, who is recognized by the American Camp Association as the founder of recreational camping in the United States.
Commencement Exercises will begin at 10 a.m. on campus. The ceremony is open to students, faculty, family members, and invited guests only. All families will have reserved seating under the Commencement tent and are asked to please check in with a staff member upon arrival to be escorted to your seats. Parking is available on campus for families and invited guests, and parking attendants will be available on-site to assist visitors and direct traffic. For those who are unable to attend in person, the event will be live streamed. Please refer to the Commencement page of our website on May 26 for the live stream link.
Head of School Emily Raudenbush Gum will welcome guests and present the school’s three top prizes: The Gunn Cup, the Brinsmade Prize, and the Head of School’s Prize. This year’s Commencement Address will be delivered by Trustee Damien Marshall P’24. Prior to the granting of diplomas by Associate Head of School Seth Low P’26, the Prefect Addresses will be delivered by Beatrice Flynn ’24, Head Prefect, and Gordon Bennett ’25, Head Prefect-Elect.
Additional prizes will be presented during the Prize Night ceremony on May 25, which will also be live streamed. Please refer to the Commencement page for the link on May 25. For those planning to attend in person, the Prize Night ceremony is open to students, faculty, family members and invited guests only.
