Four Students Honored With Connecticut Scholastic Art Awards

"The Flawless Ancient-Style Wine Pot” by Cathy Yang '28

Four student-artists have been selected to participate in the 2026 Connecticut Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition. Meadow Drakeley '26, Melissa Kang '27, Ahram Kim '26, and Cathy Yang '28 will have their original artwork featured in the largest juried student art exhibition in the state. Together, they garnered six Gold Key, Silver Key, and Honorable Mention awards.
 

Kang had three drawings selected, including “Absurd Yet Free Future,” which earned her a Gold Key Award, and “Towards Tomorrow” and “The Game of Impermanence,” which received Honorable Mention Awards. Kim received a Silver Key award in Photography for “Chapel Light,” and Yang received a Silver Key award in Ceramics for “The Flawless Ancient-Style Wine Pot.” Drakeley received an Honorable Mention Award for her acrylic painting, titled “United in Color.” Awards will be presented at the Connecticut Regional Celebration on January 25 at 2 p.m. in the Lincoln Theater at the University of Hartford.

The exhibition opens Monday, January 12 and will run through January 30, 2026, in the Donald and Linda Silpe Gallery at the University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford. Gallery hours are Monday–Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 12 to 5 p.m. Note: the gallery will be closed on Monday, January 19, in observance of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. 

Art students from public, private, and parochial schools across the state are invited to submit their work annually to the Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards program. This program recognizes only the best artwork from Connecticut students. Work is selected based on merit for inclusion in the statewide exhibition by a panel of professional artists and university art faculty in 18 categories.
