Gunn Football Wins New England Championship

2025 NEPSAC Football Champions

The Highlanders defeated the Wilbraham & Monson Titans 48-29 to win the 2025 NEPSAC Eight-Person Football League Championship on November 16, 2025. The inaugural Eight-Person Championship game was played at home on Barnes Field on a brisk fall afternoon while students and families, led by the school’s new Highlander mascot, Scottie, cheered from the stands in front of the James R. Haddick Field House.

“It was an awesome weekend for our school,” Associate Head of School Seth Low P’26 ’28 said at School Meeting on November 17, inviting students and faculty to join him in congratulating the team along with the Highlanders who performed this weekend in the fall play, “Peter and the Starcatcher,” and the Varsity Field Hockey team, which played King School in the NEPSAC Field Hockey Championship Semifinals on Saturday.

Joining Low on stage in the Tisch Family Auditorium, Zach Mihaly, Head Coach for Varsity Football, and Tri-captains Nathan Marshall ’26, Jack Fonte ’26, and Evan Bailey ’26, presented the championship trophy to Colleen Fink, Athletic Director and Dean of Co-curricular Activities.

“It’s an honor being in front of you today,” Mihaly said to the students and faculty. “The school’s spirit and pride is stronger than ever. On behalf of the varsity football team, thank you. Your energy and efforts do not go unnoticed. We would not have been able to accomplish what we accomplished without you.”

Though this was the first NEPSAC Eight-Person Football Championship “Bowl Game,” it was not the school’s first championship. Following an undefeated season in the league’s inaugural year, the Highlanders beat Pomfret 48-0 for the title in 2016.

This year, Gunn ended the season with a record of 7-1.
