On Saturday, May 27, The Frederick Gunn School and its student-led community service club, Gunn Gives Back, will host the “Gunn Runn.” The run is open to all and will begin at 1:30 p.m. on the Koven-Jones Glade on campus. Participants may run or walk the route.
The registration fee is $15. Cash or Venmo are accepted. Proceeds will benefit the music program at the Children's Community School in Waterbury.
The sponsors of the 2023 Gunn Runn include: Hickory Stick Bookshop, Marty's Cafe, Washington Food Market, Inc., Washington Supply Company, The Pantry, The PO, Five Janes, Stuart's Floral, Washington Pizza House, G.W. Tavern, O'Keiff Orthodontics, The Hen's Nest, and Washington Montessori School.
According to its Mission Statement: "The purpose of The Community Service Club is to provide an outlet for people within The Frederick Gunn School community who have a passion for helping others. The goal of the club is to demonstrate the morals and selflessness of The Frederick Gunn School community on and off campus through service. Members support each other and others through service activities and selfless acts as well as building off of each other's ideas and working together as a team."
The club's activities are open to all. During this school year, club members participated in a clean-up on Washington Green and made handmade Cardz for Kidz, which deliver support, smiles, and encouragement to children, families, seniors, and veterans in hospitals, schools, senior living facilities, and other nonprofits. The club also hosted charity volleyball and basketball games, and a student-vs.-faculty hockey game.
