Perakos Arts and Community Center.

Adapted from the screenplay for Fey's hit 2004 film, the musical “Mean Girls” was nominated for 12 Tony Awards on Broadway. The story is told from the point of view of new girl Cady Heron. According to Music Theatre International: “Cady may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady and her friends devise a ‘Revenge Party’ to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung.”
"Like 'Urinetown,' our 2024 winter musical, 'Mean Girls' elevates this cautionary tale through humor. Often, humor is the best medicine and a smart way to introduce topics that could use serious examination," said Kent Burnham, Director of Theatre Arts. "'Mean Girls' poses important questions: Why do we use social media to hurt each other? Why do we think it is 'fetch' to make fun of others maliciously? Why don’t we empower and champion each other more often? Why wear pink only on Wednesdays?"
