The Frederick Gunn School student group Hearts for Action is supporting an American Red Cross Blood Drive on April 14, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Thomas S. Perakos Arts and Community Center on campus. Qualified students, faculty, parents, and community members are all invited and encouraged to participate in this annual event, honoring the late Margaret P. Addicks for her 45 years of service to the school and the Town of Washington. Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are strongly encouraged. Please use the link below to schedule an appointment online.
Parking is available in the Upper Parking Lot off Kirby Road (see #37 on the Campus Map), with a limited number of accessible parking spaces outside the Thomas S. Perakos Arts and Community Center (#34 on the Campus Map).
Donors can also save time by completing the Red Cross Rapid Pass. Please remember to arrive on time and bring your photo ID. Hydrate and eat a good breakfast or lunch, wear comfortable clothing with sleeves that can be raised above your elbow, and get a good night's rest the night before your appointment.
The need for life-saving blood is constant. Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood and one donation can save up to three lives. If you have questions about whether you are eligible to give blood, please see the Red Cross Requirements by Donation Type. Students age 17 or older who meet the Blood Donation Eligibility Requirements may donate with a completed parent permission form. If you have traveled or live internationally, please refer to the Red Cross Updated Travel Related Restrictions to Blood Donation Eligibility.
The mission of Hearts for Action is to educate the school and local communities about the blood shortage crisis and to create lifelong blood donors. Students work with local and national organizations to plan the annual Margaret P. Addicks Memorial Blood Drive and supports other local blood drives.
