Cathy Yang '28, a student in the Technique and Artistry cocurricular program, won The Connie Horton Memorial Award for Best in Show at the Kent Art Association's 33rd Annual Student Art Show. Yang was honored for her beautiful ceramic work among students who exhibited in a variety of artistic mediums from six schools: The Frederick Gunn School, Millbrook School, South Kent School, Forman School, Marvelwood School, and Housatonic Valley Regional High School.
This year's Student Art Show opened February 9 and awards were presented at the closing ceremony on February 22. In addition to "Best in Show," the judges presented prizes for the best work from each school. Rebecca Tu '25 took home the Best in The Frederick Gunn School Award for her painting, which was based on Sir John Tenniel's illustration of Alice outgrowing Rabbit's house, from Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland."
Students enrolled in Visual Arts courses at Gunn with Andrew Richards P'20 '23 and Lincoln Turner as well as the Technique and Artistry cocurricular program participated in the show. “The criteria for selecting the exhibit was originality, execution, artistic decision, body of work, and serendipity," exhibit co-chairman Michael Spross said, according to an article published in The Lakeville Journal.
