Four student-artists from The Frederick Gunn School were selected to participate in the annual Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards, the largest juried student art exhibition in the state. Their work will be featured through February 3 at the Donald and Linda Silpe Gallery at the University of Hartford.

In addition to being selected for the exhibit, Gunn students earned a total of eight awards, including Gold and Silver Keys and Honorable Mention Awards, in four separate categories. An awards celebration will be held Sunday, January 29, at 2 p.m. in the University of Hartford's Lincoln Theater.

Congratulations to the following students:

Yoyo Zhang ’24 was awarded a Gold Key in Photography for “Alone at Home,” and a Silver Key in Photography for “Fictional Life.”

All four students have been enrolled this year in the Technique & Artistry co-curricular program with Visual Arts Chair Andrew Richards P’20 ’23, and Zhang is a student in A.P. Studio Art, a yearlong course that is equivalent to that of an introductory college course in studio art. Sanchez also studies metalworking and jewelry making with Julie Czerenda, director and educator at ART Experience in New Milford.

Art students from public, private, and parochial schools across the state were invited to submit their work to the 2023 Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards program. Work was selected for the exhibit by a panel of professional artists and university art faculty in 17 categories. The Silpe Gallery is located inside the Hartford Art School, University of Hartford, at 200 Bloomfield Ave, West Hartford. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 12 to 4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m., through February 3.
