In Memoriam: Jesse Terry ’97
With deep sadness, the Gunn School community mourns the passing of Jesse Terry ’97.
Originally from Essex, Connecticut, Jesse was a four-year student at Gunn and an enthusiastic teammate—serving as a coxswain in crew and competing in wrestling and soccer. He had a rare gift for making others feel welcome, creating moments of joy, and strengthening lifelong friendships. A vital connector among alumni from the late 1990s and early 2000s, he brought people together both formally and informally—hosting young alumni gatherings in the city and spearheading the NYC Gunn Holiday after-party.
After Gunn, Jesse earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and later an MBA from New York University, going on to a widely respected career in New York City real estate.
Jesse’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Anne, and their twins, Corby and Brakeley. They lived in New York City and spent time together in Central Park; he also enjoyed working with his children in their local community vegetable garden.
Outside of work and family, he was the able captain of his classic sailboat—often inviting alumni for races and cruises from Bermuda to Newfoundland and all points in between—many of which were featured in the pages of the Gunn Bulletin. His sense of adventure and camaraderie enriched every crew he joined.
Jesse’s spirit—his enthusiasm for life, his generosity in helping others, and his steadfast loyalty to friends—deeply enriched our community. His loss will be felt profoundly. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, his classmates, and all in the Gunn community who knew and loved him.
