Celebrating Our 2025 CMEA Northern Region Festival Finalists
In November, 11 Gunn musicians traveled to Avon High School to audition for the Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA) Northern Regional Music Festival. Advanced high school musicians from the northwest region of Connecticut auditioned for the prestigious opportunity to be selected for one of five regional ensembles that convene in mid-January to rehearse and perform under the direction of a nationally recognized conductor.
On January 16 and 17, Gunn's six finalists traveled to New Britain High School, where they joined other selected high school musicians from northwest Connecticut for two days of intensive rehearsals, culminating in an outstanding concert featuring all five ensembles: Jazz Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Orchestra, Mixed Choir, and Women’s Choir. We are proud to recognize the six students selected for this honor:

Katherine Aguirre-Felipe ’26, Siena Castonguay ’27, and Gabrielle Wang ’28 – Women’s Choir

Poppy Mand ’27 – Mixed Choir

Anya Zigmont ’26 – Symphonic Orchestra
Selection to the Northern Regional Music Festival also qualifies these students to audition for the next level, the CMEA All-State Music Festival, which will be held at the Hartford Convention Center in late March. All-State auditions take place on February 7 at North Haven High School.
